Primieval Boreal Forest

Kainuu, Finland - Skinnskatteberg, Sweden

For those who like the seclusion of a remote wilderness this is the place for you.  The tour has two locations and you can choose to join us on both legs of the journey or only one or the other should you prefer.

Firstly we will be heading to Finland, into the depths of the Kainuu region near the Russian border.  This largely uninhabited area is home to wild wolves and bears.  The photographic opportunities should be good.  Hides have been established to maximize our chances.  There are also some impressive birds to be found such as Eagle Owls and

Then we move to Sweden for more lakes, more forest and more wilderness.  This time we will be looking to photograph the stately elk, industrious beavers and the weasel with attitude, the wolverine.

There will, of course, be a wealth of fauna and flora to point your lens at; small mammals, birds and all the plant life growing on the forest floor as well as the mushrooms and toadstools.

Essential Information

This tour is designed for the watching and photographing of wildlife without a great deal of strenuous hiking.  In Finland a lot of the observations will be made from hides.  In Sweden it will entail taking to the water at least once.  You will be in the land of forests and lakes.

A telephoto lens will be the most useful lens on this tour.  The purpose of this adventure is to see some of the large mammal species and with luck we should be well rewarded.  A wide angle lens will be a bonus for the lakes.  Within the forest you may want a macro lens to capture the smaller fauna and flora you may encounter on the forest floor.

You will be accompanied throughout by an English-speaking biologist.  The tour guides in Finland and Sweden will be locals with a good knowledge of the area, of the wildlife and photographic techniques to help get you the best shots.  You are guaranteed to be well catered for.
